Eating disorders are complex, often life-threatening conditions that can be scary and confusing. I offer psychoeducation sessions for loved ones in which I offer a slideshow and an information packet to help navigate the sensitive nature of eating disorders. I will also answer any questions you may have and help you navigate the nuances of your personal situation.
Eating Disorders are very serious, complex, and often misunderstood mental illnesses. I have extensive experience working with those who suffer from the full spectrum of eating disorders, from anorexia nervosa to binge eating disorder. I spent years working at the inpatient, residential, and intensive outpatient treatment levels. I worked as the Clinical Director of treatment programs and helped launch and develop effective programs to provide care for those requiring higher levels of care. I am skilled in the nuanced, unique treatment of food and body related issues and understand the need for specialized care.
The term codependency first arose in circles of addiction to describe the relationship that developed between a person and another's addiction. This term has since broadened to include a relationship dynamic where one person assumes the role of “the giver,” sacrificing their own needs and well-being for the sake of the other, “the taker.” The bond in question doesn’t have to be romantic; it can occur just as easily between parent and child, friends, and family members. Healing from codependency involves learning to set boundaries, care for self, and detach with love from the significant other's behaviors associated with the addictive substance or behavior.
Growing up with a parent or caregiver who has a personality disorder incurs a deep and painful attachment wound on the child. It can require specialized care with someone who understands the complexities and type of trauma that comes with this relational trauma. If you suspect you have a parent, caregiver, or significant person in your life who may have a personality disorder, I can help you sort through the confusion, array of feelings, and development of your true self.
Church and spiritual communities can be a meaningful and powerful place for belonging and connection. When power is misused, it can also be a place of confusion and manipulation. If you suspect you have been subject to some form of spiritual abuse, or you are navigating your own spiritual journey or relationship to a religious institution, I can help.
